Located in the heart of the beautiful Hudson Valley, just 50 miles above Manhattan, lies Orange County. Agriculture is an integral part of life here and that is reflected in the Farmers Markets, Farm-to-Table restaurants, orchards, wineries and even Farm-to-Bottle distilleries, breweries and cideries. The arts also play an important role. Galleries, performing arts centers and sculpture gardens provide venues for the talents of both local and national artists. Local theater groups showcase the talents of community members. Many municipalities offer free concerts or concert series, and arts and crafts fairs are held throughout the year.
Rich in history, you’ll find historic sites and homes throughout the county dating back to the 1700’s and the Revolutionary War. In fact, George Washington commanded his troops from his headquarters in Orange County during the last 16 months of the war. Located in a stone fortress overlooking the Hudson River, this became America’s first Registered National Historic Landmark.
Orange County is thriving. Stewart International Airport has expanded services. Amy’s Kitchen has broken ground on a new factory complex. When completed in 2021, it’s expected that the vegetarian, organic food company will add 680 jobs to the local economy. In addition, Legoland’s New York Resort is scheduled to open in 2020, with plans to hire 1,000 people and bring an incredible theme park experience to the area.
Situated in southeastern New York State, Orange County is directly north of the New Jersey-New York border, west of the Hudson River, east of the Delaware River and northwest of New York City.
